Fall Prep State of Mind

It's not Fall. In Memphis, July and August have offered a few teasers with mild temperatures, but the next week looks like mid-to-upper 90s. I want to start getting excited about Fall, but it is difficult when the weather still demands cutoffs and open-toed shoes. Are you ready to make that mindset transition also?

Here are a few tips:

1. Peruse Pinterest. I have a couple of Boards dedicated to Fall - Fall Fashion Frenzy & Fall Fanfare. There are a ton of crafty projects for the house or trendy outfits to plan. The good news is that the retail industry plans for Fall well in advance, so the stores should have everything you need. Recently, I bought two jackets and a pair of boots that I know will be unworn for months, but I start planning Fall Wardrobe in July.

2. Food & Drink. Time to wipe the dust off of the crock pot and experiment with soup, stew and chili recipes. Oatmeal spice cookies, anyone? Banana bread? How about a good, old-fashioned pumpkin spice latte? Plan and practice. By the time Fall rolls around, you will have a whole arsenal of meals and tailgate food at your disposal.

3. Burn, Baby, Burn. I am talking about candles, folks. My favorite smells of all are Fall smells. Keep it local with brands like Khakiman Designs or Downtown Candle Company. If you need something from your local Hallmark, Farmer's Market by Yankee Candle Co. is one of my very favorite scents!
